Improving fitness is the main goal, but it is closely followed by weight loss.

Keto diet (and other low carb diets)

The ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet that aims to get the body to burn fat instead of carbohydrates for its energy.

The ketogenic diet is a diet that is used clinically for the treatment of epilepsy.

It was not designed to be used as a diet to lose weight.

While low carb diets can be effective in helping you lose weight, this is not because carbs are something we should restrict or are a magical cure for weight loss.

This is due to an overall reduction in energy intake.

Vegan diet

It is not a diet to be followed specifically to lose weight, but a way of eating, or a lifestyle, which requires dedication and attention to nutrition.

There are nutrients such as calcium, iron, zinc, iodine, selenium, B12 vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids that are more difficult to achieve with a vegan diet, so planning your food intake and having good knowledge is key. .

Choosing to eat more plants and add diversity to your diet, even if you eat some animal products, can also be a more manageable way to eat without being totally vegan.

The Mediterranean diet is considered very healthy, but it may not make you lose weight (image: Shutterstock)

Mediteranean diet

The Mediterranean diet follows the traditional healthy eating habits of people from countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, such as France and Spain. It is rich in vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, beans, grains, cereals, fish and unsaturated fats such as olive oil.

This is an evidence-based way of eating with proven benefits for heart health and long-term health.

It’s not a diet to lose weight, but if you increase your intake of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein, you’re likely to lose weight if your body needs to lose weight.

The Mediterranean diet is a way of eating that is definitely good to follow.

The FODMAP diet is one that is low in carbohydrates that ferment in the digestive system. They can be found in products such as soft fruits and dairy products. It means oligo-, di-, monosaccharides and fermentable polyols

The low FODMAP diet is another evidence-based diet used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

It is not designed for weight loss and should not be used as a way to lose weight!

Instead, it’s a way to find out if there are foods that are bothering your digestive system by eliminating them and then reintroducing them into your diet.

It is a complex diet that should be followed with dietary support.

Meal replacement diets often involve consuming controlled calorie shakes (image: Shutterstock)

The Cambridge Diet (and other meal replacement diets)

The Cambridge Diet is an example of a meal replacement diet, where participants consume certain foods or smoothies with a particular responsibility in calorie control.

Dietitians sometimes use meal replacement diets to help you lose weight.

But these are used in a structured way, with education and support to help the person return to a normal diet.

The problem with doing these diets on your own may be that you are not receiving education and support.

So even though you can lose weight fast, your weight is not maintained in the long run.

Diet 800 (and other fasting diets)

The 800 diet is an example of a fasting diet, where people restrict their caloric intake on certain days of the week or during certain times of the day. The 800 diet itself was developed by television doctor Michael Mosley

While these diets may work for some people, there are many for whom fasting is not sustainable or comfortable.

We should not punish ourselves with diets, but we should find a nice way to eat that will maintain our long-term health.

For most people, a fasting diet will be a short-term solution.

The paleo diet consists of consuming a lot of lean meat that our ancestors are believed to have eaten more than 10,000 years ago (image: Shutterstock)

Paleo diet

The paleo diet involves consuming food and drink that our ancestors had access to the Paleolithic era, which spanned 10,000 to 2.5 million years ago. It involves eating lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds and avoiding foods that became popular with the advent of agriculture, for example, dairy.

This is a fad diet that eliminates food groups.

Any diet that does this should be avoided.

While it can help you lose weight, it will not be a long-term weight loss and can lead to a restrictive diet that prevents you from getting all the nutrition your body needs.

Priya Tew’s best tips

In fact, I would not recommend following a weight loss diet or even focusing on weight loss.

We know that a large percentage of diets just don’t work.

Instead of following a diet that is unlikely to last, focus on what you can add to your lifestyle to improve your health habits.

Eat more fruits and vegetables, switch to whole foods, increase your water intake, move your body daily, and improve your sleep habits.

Practice adapting to your body’s needs when it comes to appetite, feel full, and get satisfaction with your food.
