Roma director Tiago Pinto says the Giallorossi hired Mourinho to ‘win every game’ and blames the international break: ‘It’s impossible to play so many games.’
The Giallorossi face Juventus at the Allianz Stadium today.
It kicks off at 19.45 UK time.
When asked about José Mourinho’s appointment over the summer, Tiago Pinto said: “We got him to win all games, the matches against big clubs bring more adrenaline, but they’re worth three points like those against Empoli, Udinese and Verona,” he told DAZN.
“This coach, with his experience and quality, has made Roma stronger.”
José Mourinho has won four of his previous five meetings with Massimiliano Allegri who has collected two victories.
The last time they met was during a Champions League group stage game between Juventus and Manchester United in 2018.
The Red Devils won 2-1, but the Old Lady had beaten the Premier League giants in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford two weeks earlier.
Tammy Abraham picked up an ankle injury on international duty, but he has been included in Roma’s starting XI against Juventus.
“For players, it’s a dream to play with their national teams, for me it’s a heart problem. Today we sign players, but then they play more games with their national teams,” Tiago Pinto added.
“I watch every game during the break because I am always afraid that something can happen, it’s impossible to play so many games in such a short time.”
Roma have collected 15 points so far this season, winning five games and losing two.
Juventus, on the other hand, host Roma on the back of three successive wins in Serie A, but sit four points behind the Giallorossi with 11 points in seven games.
