Scott McTominay provides Manchester United fitness boost ahead of Watford fixture

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has revealed that he has ‘recovered well’ from illness this week in a boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of facing Watford on Saturday.

McTominay had been called up to the Scotland squad for the final round of World Cup qualifiers but then had to pull out after being struck down with an illness.

As a result, he missed the 2-0 victory over Moldova on Friday as well as Monday night’s match against Denmark.

McTominay took to Instragam ahead of the game at Hampden Park to express his disappointment at not being involved but did provide a positive update on his health.

“Tough one to take not being available to help the boys this past week through not being well but I’ve recovered well and just want to wish the squad the best of luck for tonight,” he wrote accompanied with fingers crossed and a blue heart emoji.

The news will be music to Solskjaer’s ears ahead of United’s return to Premier League action against Watford on the weekend, as he will potentially be without four other players.

Raphael Varane is definitely unavailable as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury as is his international teammate Paul Pogba, who is suspended for the game anyway but suffered a thigh injury in France training and is expected to be out for at least two months.

Edinson Cavani will also miss out as he continues to deal with a tendon issue while Luke Shaw is a doubt as he continues to follow concussion protocols after suffering a blow to the head in the Manchester derby defeat.
