Keto diet warning: Dr. Rupy “of course not” would recommend the plan to increase mood

Dr. Rupy recommends the ketogenic diet? “As a strategy to lose weight, yes,” he said. He went on to explain that diet may not be beneficial for mood and called for caution.

“What is a keto diet, is that it is very low in protein, very low in fiber and carbohydrates.

“What you do wrong is cause disruptions to your microbiota so they don’t thrive, and that can have a negative effect on how you feel.”

What is the microbiota?

The microbiota are the communities of microorganisms that live in our body.

It includes bacteria, fungi and other cell types. Does the gut have the largest population and therefore does what you eat have a huge effect on the health of your microbiota?

Dr. Rupy added, “I’ve done an entire podcast on the keto diet. Some uses include epilepsy and a lot of other things.

“I’d certainly say it’s not because of your mood.”

The keto diet suggests getting at least 70 percent of your daily calories from fat and less than 50 g of carbs a day.

Foods to avoid in the diet are sugar, cereals, fruits, beans and alcohol.

Side effects of the keto diet

The keto diet has some side effects, including the keto flu.

As the body goes into ketosis, it can cause headaches and irritability, as well as a feeling of weakness.

There may also be dizziness, nausea, and muscle aches.

He warned that eating whole foods is the best way to take care of your gut and said there are no quick fixes when it comes to supplements.

“Diversity in your diet is the best way to support your microbes,” he said.

“When I say diversity, there was a study that found that 30 different plant types in your diet per week improved your gut microbial population.”
