Coronation Street Annie Windass star’s epic weight loss transformation and soap return

Coronation Street star Debbie Rush quickly became a fan-favourite after first entering the soap in 2008.

The actress, who played Anna Windass until 2018, had many dramatic storylines during her long run on the show.

Not only did she have a rocky relationship with her long-term partner Eddie Windass (played by Steve Huison), she also had many feuds.

She also adopted Faye Butler (played by Ellie Leach), but things turned sour when Faye alleged she abused her.

A lot happened in her ten-year stint on the soap and fans still miss Debbie on the cobbles.

She exited the show in 2018 after being framed by Pat Phelan (played by Conor McIntyre) and later killing the murderer.

She also previously opened up about her exit from Coronation Street and admitted it came at the right time.

Speaking to WhatsOnTV, she said: “I had the best time on Coronation Street. But I moved on because I wanted to do other things.

“I love having the freedom to choose, because when you’re on a long-running soap you feel tied down and you can’t do anything else!”

Though Debbie has once said that she ‘doesn’t think’ she will be returning as Anna, she did say: “Never say never.”

Since her time on the show, the star has been keeping her private life away from the limelight.

The actress even changed her lifestyle and dropped four dress sizes in a mere four months.

Debbie went from a size 16 to a size 8.

A decade ago, she explained to Mirror: “I hit 40 and started to turn into a frumpy mum. I felt like an alien.

“I didn’t have a weight problem when I was younger, even after having my kids – but in the last four years it started to creep on.”

She revealed that she felt insecure after seeing a paparazzi picture of her in a black bra and pants.

Debbie had switched her drinking – which used to be a few pints of beer on a night out – to lighter options.

Following her weight loss, she even released her very own fitness DVD in 2010.

It is called Debbie Rush’s Bulge Buster Workout and featured the paparazzi snap of her in her black bra on the front cover.

“I want to share my exercise secrets and show other real women just like me how to blitz away their body bulge,” she said of her workout DVD.

When it comes to social media, Debbie has been keeping it low key. She hasn’t posted since 2019.

Some fans believe Debbie could be returning to Corrie after she was mentioned in an episode in early March 2022.
